Glenfiddich, which means ‘The Valley of the Deer’, has been making their signature single malt since 1887. Their master coopers believe that up to 65% of the flavour of the final Scotch comes from the wood, hence the reason this 18 year old single malt has been carefully aged in no more than 150 casks, so they can control each element. Oloroso sherry casks and American Oak are used to age this impressive malt. The signature young flavours of fruit and pear that are so apparent in the 12YO and 15YO are now transformed into a burst of ripe orchard-baked fruits and more robust oak. The baked fruit taste, along with dates dried fruit and candied peel, make for a gorgeous flavour that ends with a long, warming and rich finish.
Aroma: Loads of fruit. Zesty grapefruit, baked toffee apples. Dry, chocolate Flake-y wood and cinnamon.
Palate: Candied fruits and Glenfiddich freshness balances richer notes of dried apricot, more cinnamon and toffee, ginger and dry Sherry.
Finish: Peels and a touch of salted toffee.
